I am excited to say that I am going to attend the world’s largest blogging and new media conference this year, the Blog World Expo in Las Vegas. Over 130 speakers will talk about a wide range of topics in 50+ seminars, workshops and keynotes during September 20 and 21. The seminar cover topics such as Blog monetization, Podcasting, Widgets, Open Source, Social Media, Political Blogging, Content Marketing, Personal Branding – and much much more. Given that there are so many great speakers and fascinating things to hear, learn and talk about, it’s difficult to pick the ‘best’ sessions.

One thing I already know: I definitely want to go to the Seminar Making money online with a blog, where the “super panel” including iconic personalities like Darren Rowse (Problogger), Brian Clark (Copy Blogger), John Chow, Shoemoney, Zac Johnson and Jim Kukral are going to talk about their journey to become successful blogger and hopefully share some great tips. As John Chow promised on his blog: “You will not want to miss this session because we’re going to blow your mind.” Well, that’s a teaser…

I am actually already going to be in Vegas on Friday morning, because I did not want to miss the B5 Blogger Summit. It’s a training day for all B5media bloggers which Darren Rowse opened up to all BlogExpo to all registrants who wanted to attend. Among other speakers, Darren himself will reveal some secrets how to find more readers. I am also looking forward to the Q&A with blogging masterminds such as Robert Scoble, http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/doc/ and Stowe Boyd. I don’t know if you still can register, but check out Darren’s blog post for more info.

Arresting bloggers to suppress freedom of speech becomes more and more common. China threw a political blogger in jail, Egypt detained a blogger without a trial, Malaysia arrested a blogger for sedition – and Iran considers a law to murder bloggers. (Even at the U.S. border feds can now ‘detain’ anybody’s laptop).

The World Information Access Project at the University of Washington released a report that identified 64 bloggers, unaffiliated with news organizations, who had been arrested for the contents of their blogs between 2003 and 2008.

WIA writes:

After surveying our data, we predict that the number of blogger arrests will rise in 2008. The popularity of online blogs continues to grow and inspire more media coverage of arrest incidents. Countries are enforcing greater Internet regulation, which will only increase with the elections in China, Pakistan, Iran and the United States this year.
